WE ARE THE LOVELACE’S
Hello!
Our story begins in college, where I truly believe most epic stories tend to start, while we were both majoring in Psychology. Yes, we both majored in Psychology, and yes it does make our lives a little more interesting. I mean, two random kids who wanted to be counselors but then changed their minds and became wedding photographers? Like what are the odds? And to top it off, I don’t know how many times we end a conversation with, “Do you think other people talk about these things?” Please come hang out with us and talk about all the weird and amazing topics of life.
We are BIG on epic chats…ESPECIALLY over food.
Okay, back to our love story, we didn’t really talk much or even run in the same circles (hello perfect Daniel and little outsider Gina) until we both happened to decide to go on a research study trip to Ghana, Africa. We had no internet, no friends, and no way to contact the outside world. Okay, I’m being a bit dramatic, but we were really forced to step outside our comfort zones, try new things, and in doing so we learned a little bit more about who we are as people (woohoo!). It was also so much fun to find a whole group of people who truly cared about those around them. Less individualistic and more community. We loved that! So, everyone on the trip told Daniel and me that we were like two peas in a pod and honestly, there’s how it all began. Daniel and I started dating a month after returning from our Africa trip and only dated for three months before he proposed and I SAID YES! We are strong believers in the “WHEN YOU KNOW YOU KNOW” but also making a choice that only the two of you can make each and every single day. Marrying your best friend is also a huge plus.
I was never the girl who thought of wedding planning, never played dress up with my sister pretending to be brides, and honestly never even thought about the details of a wedding if I had one, don’t you love the irony of me being a wedding photographer and knowing all things wedding now?? The ONLY wedding-related detail I thought about was how cool it would be to get married on July 12th. It just seemed like the perfect date! Very “Miss Congeniality” of me I know, BUT it turns out without even realizing it Daniel and I started dating on July 12th, 2013, and when we were planned our wedding we had to come up with a date… and July 12th popped into our heads and just so happened to fall on a SATURDAY the following year! I like to think it was meant to be.
It really is the little things.
Daniel and I were married back at the campground I grew up on in Wisconsin. This couldn’t have been more fitting since we really are the opposite of high maintenance. If you know us, you know. A camping theme just felt right. All of our friends and family drove the 14 hours North to my hometown staying in tents and campers the days surrounding our wedding. (Was this a foretelling of us living in a van?) It was simple and magical all wrapped into one. Maybe I’ll actually do a blog about it one day!
We are really big on adventures over here. We like to think that any moment is a moment for adventure, even if it’s just heading to the grocery store because those are the moments you remember. So, whether it’s climbing a mountain or finding a new photo location we are here for it. We hope one day you’ll come along with us OR if we are lucky enough you’ll invite us along on one of yours!
#VANLIFE
We have always accepted our nomad life. If you are our friends you know we’ve ALWAYS been those crazy couch surfers and weekend visitors showing up whenever because of our schedules. When we say we are stopping by we really mean it. We were made for the open road, city life, deep wooded walks, mountain cliffs, sandy beaches, and EVERYWHERE our hears will take us. We LOVE to travel and when I say travel I don’t mean just heading to the next dope location (I mean hello, love those too) but really experiencing each location fully. We are working on being fully present in the place we are at. If that means being in Columbus, OH or Asia. Which was a huge driving force in us purchasing our van. Yes, a VAN. It was a huge dream and passion. It took us everhwhere and was such a fun time in our lives. It taught us to live simply, waste less, experience EVERYWHERE and truly own the things we own. Things were made for a purpose and we feel like we were made for adventure. Adventure to us means so many amazing things and helps us to feel things in the most real way. Adventure is truly living. That’s what we want to be known for. We have since had our son Indy and bought a house so our newest adventure is renovating our house. Say hello, tell us about your upcoming adventures, or just stop by and chat. WE LOVE IT ALL and hello, we were made for connection. Connect with us.
